The English Team to Start Euro 2028 Journey at the Etihad Stadium
The English squad will commence their UEFA Euro 2028 adventure at the Etihad Stadium, on the condition that they achieve the expected entry for a competition staged throughout the bulk of Britain and the Republic of Ireland.
Manchester City’s home ground has not hosted an Three Lions match since eight years ago, when Turkey were overcome 2-1 in a warm-up game, but is almost certain to stage the England side for their opening fixture on June 10, 2028.
England are scheduled to play their concluding group fixtures at Wembley Stadium, but, in the event of winning their group, their last-16 tie would take place at the Newcastle stadium. Securing the runner-up spot would mean beginning the playoffs at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Tournament Kickoff and Rally
The event was launched at an gathering in a London landmark on the previous evening. High-ranking officials from Uefa and the organizing bodies were barracked as they entered the site by about 50 activists, who demanded the Israeli team to be kicked out from international football because of the conflict in Gaza.
Placards were raised with messages reading “Show Israel the red card” and “You are complicit”, while activists called out: “Kick Israel out.”
Championship Fixture List
The opening game of Euro 2028 will be staged at the Principality Stadium in the Welsh capital, on Friday 9 June, a fixture that will involve Wales if they secure a place.
The national stadium will host the penultimate rounds and the final, which will be played on a Sunday in July 2028 with a kick-off time at late afternoon.
It is anticipated that an earlier kick-off, which will also be adopted for Champions League finals from the following campaign, will appeal to family audiences and help connect with a wider spectrum of audiences.
Participating Countries
The Irish team are due to play their first game at the Dublin stadium and the Tartan Army would play similarly at Hampden Park.
Each host nation’s squad will enter the qualifying tournament; two reserved places will be held in reserve for any that miss out on the finals through the qualification path.
Locations and Knockout Stage
Villa Park and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium complete the nine tournament locations. Each one will hold at least one elimination game, with the quarter-finals held at each country’s national stadium.
The draw for the qualifiers will be conducted in the Northern Irish capital, which was removed as a venue city last year when it was revealed the proposed venue could not be renovated in time, on December 6, 2026.
Tournament Vision
“The event will be a competition for the supporters and a showcase of everything we cherish about the sport – its fervor and power to unite individuals.”
In excess of three million tickets, a record for a men’s European Championship, are projected to be released to fans.
