Manchester United Poised to Sign Germany Striker Lea Schüller away from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move away from Bayern Munich.
A Major Acquisition for the WSL Side
The forward, with half a year remaining on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee signing for the WSL side.
Her exit from Bayern was expected since she was seen holding back emotions while thanking the German club’s fans following a victory over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in late December that the German women's top flight was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the transfer are now finalised.
Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen the Forward Line
The experienced striker's arrival should represent a significant boost to United’s attacking options. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven straight seasons, including the last term, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Old Trafford
Securing the German international comes at a time when United seem to be gathering momentum.
Their recent performances feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen further business:
- The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.
On the midfielder's extension, a club official stated: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can sense how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
