King to Share Personal Message on His Health Battle in TV Address
His Majesty has taped a intimate address regarding his journey with cancer, scheduled for transmission as part of this year's Stand Up To Cancer drive, spearheaded by Cancer Research UK and a major network.
Buckingham Palace stated the King would reflect on his "healing process" as a person living with the disease, in a recorded address on this Friday at 20:00 GMT.
The message, taped inside a royal residence recently, will emphasise the vital significance of preventative health checks to ensure more people catch the disease at an initial point.
This will be a infrequent public commentary on the medical condition of the Sovereign, who has been in a course of therapy since the news was shared in early last year. But it is thought improbable the King will disclose his type of cancer.
Fundraising Core Mission
The Stand Up To Cancer campaign each year raises funds for scientific studies and patient care and encourages people to get health assessments to increase the odds of an early diagnosis.
The King's relative openness about his health challenge, and living with cancer, has been intended to promote education and to encourage more people to get screened - and this will be escalated with this exceptional personal contribution.
To date the King's primary strategy to his cancer has been to keep working, upholding a busy schedule alongside his frequent sessions of care, and he seems not to have wanted to be defined by his diagnosis.
The past twelve months has seen the King, 77, undertaking several international tours, including to Italy and Canada, and receiving the biggest number of inward state visits to the UK for a generation, featuring the German president in recent days.
Friday's Broadcast Event
The upcoming Stand Up to Cancer programme on Channel 4, hosted by celebrities including a team of famous hosts, will urge people not to be frightened of getting cancer checks.
The hosts have been affected by cancer - one host disclosed in November she had undergone surgery for breast cancer, while Balding was diagnosed with thyroid cancer over a decade ago. Host Hills has previously mentioned his parent, who had one form of cancer and then later blood cancer.
The show will target the approximate nine million people in the UK who health organisations says are not compliant with NHS screening schemes, with an online checker to let people check if they are able for tests for several common cancers.
In an effort to clarify cancer checks and show the benefit of early diagnosis there will be a live broadcast from treatment centres at two Cambridge hospitals in Cambridge.
"The goal is to remove the anxiety surrounding health checks and prove everyone that they are not on their own in this," said one of the hosts.
The Landscape of Screening Programmes
At present in the UK, there are a number of national health screening services - for bowel, breast and cervical cancer - offered to eligible individuals.
A recently launched scheme for lung health is also being phased in for individuals at increased risk of contracting the condition, specifically targeting people of a certain age, who have a smoking history or used to.
Male patients may request prostate cancer checks, but there is lacking a standardised service operational.
Funding Research
The Stand Up to Cancer campaign, which has raised over one hundred million pounds for many years, is supporting dozens of clinical trials involving thousands of patients.
King Charles, in a address for attendees at a gathering for cancer charities in the spring, had spoken of recognising the "overwhelming and at times frightening reality" for patients and their support networks.
But he stated his personal journey of managing cancer had shown him that "the most difficult times of illness can be brightened by the kindness of others," as he commended those who supported those receiving treatment.
The Palace has not made public what kind of cancer the King has, or the therapies he has undergone. The King's cancer was discovered subsequent to he had received a routine operation.
