Gus Atkinson increased the injury concerns plaguing England after leaving the field early on day two in the Melbourne Test against Australia.
Atkinson experienced discomfort in his left leg immediately following a delivery of the fourth over at the MCG.
Team management indicated the 27-year-old felt some "soreness" and would spend time away from the action for further assessment "during the day".
The final Test of the tour beginning on 4 January begins on Sunday, 4 January.
The visitors have already lost strike bowlers one seamer to a knee injury and Jofra Archer to a side strain on the current trip.
A replacement bowler was called up to provide backup.
The seamer had a tough time early in the series, claiming a mere three wickets.
