Fashion legend Antony Price, the influential British fashion designer who crafted a series of unforgettable images associated with musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has died at 80 years old.

He was celebrated for his sculptured silhouettes and dramatic aesthetics, most notably the soft-colored suits that appeared in the pop-rock group Duran Duran's landmark music video for "their hit Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement online."

This news arrives shortly after he presented his most recent collection in London, marking his return to the runway after over three decades. Singer Lily Allen modelled a dress evoking the notorious black velvet "revenge dress" historically worn by Princess Diana.

A Pioneering Career

A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price headed for London during the sixties to study at the esteemed Royal College of Art.

Shortly after his graduation, he commenced his career designing clothing for men at the company Stirling Copper and was behind the tight, button-detailed trousers that Sir Mick Jagger famously wore during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.

He launched his own brand in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show opened with creations worn by the famed model Jerry Hall, who later wore the wedding dress Price created for her for her wedding to Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A long-time collaborator of David Bowie, Price created the memorable jacket the star wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His signature ability to blend elements of men's and women's fashion along with his expert craftsmanship in shaping body-hugging looks established him as a "one-of-a-kind talent," as stated by the UK's fashion authority.

In the 1990s, he started creating outfits for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, which included a number of outfits for her tour of the United States after becoming Duchess.

With a vocation that covered over fifty years, Price presented his final runway show in London just last month in collaboration with the label 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: A hallmark of his work.
  • Theatrical Flair: Influencing music videos and stagewear.
  • Boundary-Pushing Tailoring: Blurring lines between clothing for men and women.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: Including music legends and the future Queen Consort.

The industry laments the passing to a authentic original whose impact on fashion and music remains profoundly felt.
